I’ve adopted two fish in a 10 gallon. They are “what’s left” of a family member’s community tank they no longer want. I have been reading up about Tiger Barbs and CAE, and it sounds as though neither should be in a 10 gallon. I just bought a 20 gallon (for my weather loach, black moore and reg fantail that I love), so I can’t afford the money/space for a bigger tank at the moment. The two of them seem to get along ok – the odd scuffle where one bugs the other or vice versa (seems pretty even between the two in the bugging). What can I do to keep them happy? I wanted more Tiger Barbs, but I’m worried they won’t have enough space and they’ll kill each other and the CAE eventually… I’ve heard of some people putting Guppies (which I’ve always wanted) in with Tiger Barbs and the Barb keeps the fry numbers down, but I’m worried he’ll nip their fins to stubs. Would putting something completely different in there work (shrimp, aquatic frog, freshwater crab, etc?). Oh, forgot to mention, I have thought of taking them to the lfs and trading them in, but I think my family member who gave them to me might be offended, so it’s not my first choice by any means. Thanks in advance!
I am already aware my goldfish will eventually need a bigger tank.
Also, I have read up about both the Tiger and the CAE, so I didn’t need any more basic info on them, I am asking for any creative ideas people had to avoid having to take them back. Thanks
