I am a new aquarium hobbyist and after much debate, I’ve decided to go ahead and set up a freshwater tank (salt water tanks, although beautiful, seem like alot of work for someone new like me!). I guess I’m really looking for ideas and suggestions. I love goldfish and they seems pretty easy to maintain, but what other compatible fish can I add to my tank for variety? Also, do I need to purchase “cleaner” fish for a freshwater tank (like catfish or shrimp)?

I just found out what I originally thought was a parasite, was a huge family of Gammarus Scud. I was told that people with salt water tanks (which I do not have) prefer to breed these because other fish eat them. (which mine do not) Where did these come from?
How do I get rid of them? There are way over 100 they are staying mostly under the top layer of gravel, and they are breeding like mad! I have a livebearer so chemicals are not an option at this point. Any one have any idea’s?
