fish dying fast…all gone…now what?

I have a 6 gal freshwater tank, it had 8 fish in it for 7 months. One small neon died. Some were showing stress with blood spots. I thought they were nipping at each other b/c I was underfeeding them (feeding once a day, sometimes twice). Frequently added salt. I did a 20% water change and bought 3 more fish, then all of a sudden my fish started dying. Nitrates were high and I lost all but 3 fish. My dealer (Petco) said I shouldn’t feed flakes, I should feed blood worms and brine shrimp or something. Tried that and fish didn’t eat it. I did another water change to get the nitrates normal. Then I lost the last 3. This all happened within a week. I tested the water with strips after they died. Nitrates were safe but pH and ammonia was too low. Where did I go wrong? I feel like I get mixed information from Petco all the time!! Now that my tank doesn’t have any more fish what should I do? The water is still flowing. Should I do a 80% change, wait 4-6 days, add 2-3 fish & start again?

Bamboo Plant in Aquarium?

I have a 20 gallon aquarium freshwater tank with 4 tetras, 1 dwarf gourami, 1 pea puffer, 1 loach, and a dwarf frog. I have fake plants and 2 branches as decor. I want live bamboo (dracaena) in my tank, just because it looks different. I’ve seen Petco fully submerge bamboo inside their tanks with shrimp. I’ve done research but found out that bamboo will rot if fully submerged. How does Petco do it?

Has anyone tried it?

I found this link and this person seems to have successfully planted bamboo into his tank. Do you think I have to cut the roots and leaves off before putting varnish dip? Can I buy varnish dip at Home Depot?

I need help finding a fish!?

Ok So I’ve got a 29 gallon aquarium with 2x 30 gallon filters, an airstone, and I do regular water changes. I plan on having by the end of my stocking I plan on having: 3 boseman rainbows, an african dwarf frog, a platy, a dwarf gourami, a cherry shrimp or two, and an angelfish (yes it may eat my shrimp). Soooo my problem is that I have room for one more fish. But I can’t find one that I want. This fish should be 1-3 inches big. I want a really interesting fish that you wouldn’t consider your typical petco’s beginner fish. Something REALLY cool. Something that will actually bond with me (like the angel will) not a ditzy fish that only eats (i.e. a platy) Any suggestions? cuz id love an idea! (no invertebrates please. unless there’s a freshwater starfish lol)
