Question about Goldfish, Betta, and small bowl.?
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
First a bit of background about myself, I’m quite experienced with owning freshwater fish.
I currently own tanks with guppies, red-tail sharks, mollies, gouramis, mbunas, catfishes, platies, shrimps, clown/kuhli/yoyo loches, etc. And i think i’m doing really well with it.
However, i have never owned a Betta, or a Goldfish, though i have an idea of how to treat them.
But I have never owned a mini bowl tank. Unfortunatley, i have received a “betta bowl” for xMas, that looks similar to this in terms of size:

Given that I will make use of it, probably putting my first Betta in…
~~~First (set of) question:~~~
How does it really work?
As in, would you even cycle that?
Would you bother putting gravel in it, i’m planning to have horn wort in it, which doesn’t necessary need gravel.
How do you do water change? I don’t think vacuum cleaner is an option. It’s so small too, wouln’d pouring water in and out so stress the fish?
And given how small the bowl is, how often do you change the water?
My room is quite cold in winter, maybe 10-15 celcius? You can’t put a heater in that thing.
Right.. i really dont’ get how those stores can have maintain those cups of bettas…
~~~ Second (set of ) questions: ~~~
Please don’t kill me, but on the box, it says don’t get mistaken by the name, thought it’s called “Betta Bowl”, you can put a golfish in.
Now i’m pretty surprised, i thought Goldfish needs BIG tank for how messy they are. So I think it’s lying.
But in case i’m wrong, do you know any kind of GOldfish that can be happy in that bowl?
THanks!
Can a goldfish have a heater in its tank?
Can a common goldfish have a heater in its tank? I’m asking because I have a filtered freshwater tank, with a goldfish, and i wanted to get and African Dwarf Frog and some ghost shrimp maybe. I know that Dwarf frogs need a heater, and could my goldfish survive with a heater? What about ghost shrimp? do they prefer heated or room temp.? Also do African dwarf frogs need dry land?
Scissortail Rasbora?
I just got three scissortail rasboras (don’t trust me on that spelling!). They are the first fish to go in my tank and are doing great. We are going to get three more to make a school soon. Right now I only have goldfish food and frozen peas as fish food.
Would any any of that food work?
When should I start to feed them?
How often should I feed them?
When I get them real fish food, for tropical fish, what kind would they like? (any brands, or flakes or pellets?) I know they love brine shrimp, so I am going to get some of that.
I would love to know everything about them, so please include other imformation… thanks!
The fish are the first in a community tropical freshwater tank, 55 gallon tank. It has gravel, many rocks and plants, filters and an air pump. There is no ammonia, pH is 7.0, no nitrites, nitrates are 20, alkalinity about 180…
Thanks!
Which breeds of fish can I combine into a freshwater tank?
I am a new aquarium hobbyist and after much debate, I’ve decided to go ahead and set up a freshwater tank (salt water tanks, although beautiful, seem like alot of work for someone new like me!). I guess I’m really looking for ideas and suggestions. I love goldfish and they seems pretty easy to maintain, but what other compatible fish can I add to my tank for variety? Also, do I need to purchase “cleaner” fish for a freshwater tank (like catfish or shrimp)?
Great Fish?
I’m thinking of getting a 30-50 gallon tank and I’m wondering which freshwater fish and invertebrates would really amaze people. No cichlids or goldfish. I am very experienced.
Possible choices:
red tail sharks
gourami
hatchet
discus
I currently have a 10 gallon tank w/ 5 neon tetras, 1 black skirt tetra, 1 ghost shrimp
If you had this tank what would you put in it?
