Hello,
I have a 10 gallon freshwater tank with 6 tetras 2 snails and 3 shrimp. I opened the hood of the tank yesterday and there are 2 ….things on the under part of the hood about the size of marbles… it looks like roe so im thinking its the shrimp (mainly cause its outside the water) does anyone have any thoughts about what it could be? its definitly organic…

At work I am not allowed to have a fish tank, however they do allow Betta’s in a small bowl (often with the lilly). I’m not a huge fan of Bettas and from what I’ve read it’s really not a good situation. I’m working on convincing them to let me set up a vase-like container without a “filter”. Here’s what I was thinking:
Vase-like thing (hopefully around 2 gallons)
Sand substrate
I don’t know the name of the aquatic plant I’m planning on using but It’s a common one thats tall with tons of little green leafs. Also I’m going to use probably 2 java moss balls (I think thats what they are called). The thought being the plants will oxiginate the air somewhat.
Then I was planning on putting in 2ish bioballs then point a small fan on the top to agitate the surface and hopefully create some biological filtration.
Finally I was hoping this kind of system would support 2 dwarf african frogs and say a ghost shrimp to hopefully keep the tank tidy.
Any suggestions, Will it work?
I know or at least it seems to me yes it’s better than just throwing something in a bowl but is it going to be sufficient for them to live well?
Also, I just realized I forgot, do I need to sneak a heater in there or will they be ok without it?
I have a 10 gal tank. If i put shrimp ( ghost ) would my other fish eat them or my catfish ( corys )?? What will they do for my tank? Please tell me everything about them. THANKS
First off:R.I.P. BENNY FISHKINS!!!! He was my 3 1/2 year old australian rainbow… 
Okay now that that is out of my system, I am going to be adding a few more fish to mY tanks. Here goes:
5g: 1 male betta and a snail. WHAT CAN I ADD???? Maybe some shrimp and about 4 corydoras? What do you think?
10g: 2 platies, 2 guppies, 2 golden danios, 2 otocinclus. I was thinking of adding 1-3 freshwater clams(small,about 1.5 inches) and a small fiddler crab. Yay or nay?
15g: 1 australian rainbow fish(poor Mrs.Fishkins all alone…), 6 corydoras. I was wanting to add 3-5 of some kind of tetra around 2-3 inches big. Any you think would work?

BTW the first fish I list for the tanks are fish I ALREADY have. The fish after “I want to add”, “I want to get” are the ones I will be adding hopefully

I was just given a fish tank today with some goldfish and some eels. The eels are about 7 inches long and are about 3/4 inch tall. They are brown and their tail fins are broad. I know for a fact that they aren’t tire tracks or spiny eels. They also have whiskers (six that go around their mouth) and they sometimes suck on the side of the tank. They are moderately aggressive when fed brine shrimp, but for the most part are mild mannered and stick together.
Any ideas of what they may be?
