Freshwater fishbowl setup?

At work I am not allowed to have a fish tank, however they do allow Betta’s in a small bowl (often with the lilly). I’m not a huge fan of Bettas and from what I’ve read it’s really not a good situation. I’m working on convincing them to let me set up a vase-like container without a “filter”. Here’s what I was thinking:

Vase-like thing (hopefully around 2 gallons)

Sand substrate

I don’t know the name of the aquatic plant I’m planning on using but It’s a common one thats tall with tons of little green leafs. Also I’m going to use probably 2 java moss balls (I think thats what they are called). The thought being the plants will oxiginate the air somewhat.

Then I was planning on putting in 2ish bioballs then point a small fan on the top to agitate the surface and hopefully create some biological filtration.

Finally I was hoping this kind of system would support 2 dwarf african frogs and say a ghost shrimp to hopefully keep the tank tidy.

Any suggestions, Will it work?
I know or at least it seems to me yes it’s better than just throwing something in a bowl but is it going to be sufficient for them to live well?
Also, I just realized I forgot, do I need to sneak a heater in there or will they be ok without it?

Mysterious Betta Fish Deaths?

Two of my 8 bettas died mysteriously … I need some help.
(1) They died very quickly. One day, they were eating like pigs, then the next, they would not eat anything and stay at the bottom. And on the following day, they died.
(2) All of my other bettas are happy and fine, and I treat them all the same way. They have their individual 2- or 3-gallon filtered tanks that are cycled (ammonia/nitrite reading 0 daily for several weeks now). I do a 50% water change every week. I use filtered water (with Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Filter) with the recommended amount of Electro Right and Ph Adjuster (for ph of 7.0). I have the thermostat set at 80F. I feed them primarily Hikari Bio Gold Betta pellets, with freeze dried brine shrimp and bloodworm thrown in once or twice a week for variety. So I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.
Initially, I was feeding 5 pellets once a day. Now I do only 3, just because I can’t think of anything else I could be doing wrong.
What’s going on?

Do you feed your betta brine shrimp that you’ve hatched yourself?

The baby brine shrimp are so tiny, I don’t think my betta even sees them! I’ve been feeding them Hikari Bio-Gold for bettas, and he has been eating it happily, but I thought I’d provide a variety of different foods in his diet, so I hatched my own brine shrimp (San Francisco Bay brand) and fed them to him … They are like little specks (and yes, they’ve hatched. They are SWIMMING). The betta does not even seem aware that they are food!

Is it ok to put a ghost shrimp, aquarium frog,or snail in a tank with A BETTA? Is it safe for both creatures?

I hear that the bettas will eat ghost shrimp but how will the fish react with a small aquarium tank frog or a snail? My betta “Albus” is very tempramental and lives in a one gallon aquarium. I need to know before I test his pride and limits before I end up killing the poor thing. Please help me!!!!!

10 Points for best answer… Do i really have to feed high quality food to Fish to breed them?

This is just and edited version of my question, but.. doFish such as bettas (siamese fighting fish). Do they really need high quality foods such as brine shrimp if i want them to breed. I usually feed my betta fish betta fish pellets. If i wanted to breed them, couldnt i just feed them the pellets. (by the way i already know how to breed betta fish, im just asking if it’s ok to feed freshwater fish their flake
and/or pellet food in order for them to spawn and if they will still spawn if i feed them their flake/ pellet foods)
