what is the best thing to do for a beginner fish owner?

hey everybody. just got a 10 gallon fish tank a couple weeks ago. i have 5 different types of community fishes. 2 shrimps and 1 bottom feeder. i’m sorry i don’t know their scientific names. anyway i have a heater, and a whisper filter. i clean the tank almost every week which is a pain in the ass because i’m a working student. i wanted to know what else i can do to keep them cleaner. i’ve fed them less than i did at first. i totally clean the whole tank. i took out most of my granite just coz it’s so hard to clean them as well. i have a real shrimp bamboo, 1 fake short plant and 2 coliseum ruins as decor. they’re real tiny though. i’m thinking of getting one of those auto feeders coz i’ll be on leave for more than a week. i’m not sure which is best. can you guys advice what else can i do? and what else my tank needs? thanks so much!

I need simple recipes for grilled or sauteed shrimp???

Im a beginner in cooking. I have a thing for shrimp so i need simple shrimp recipes, im thinking of using frozen shrimp. I don’t think they are jumbo. Anyway please no complicated time consuming recipes. Remember I’m only a BEGINNER!!! I ‘ve already looked on foodnetwork and i didin’t find anything that caught my eye. And also I’m not 2 interested in foreign recipes. I know its alot of demands BUT if u could please help me it would be greatly appreciated. THANX!!!

Starting a new fish tank…?

I’m a beginner, and after doing hours (quite possibly over 24 hours total LOL) of research, I thin I’m ready to start up my freshwater aquarium. Also, I have a 25 gallon aquarium.

First off– Can/should I put my plants in before I put my fish in, or do I need the fish to supply the proper nutrients to the plants? If I DO put the plants in first, will that speed up the nitrogen cycle and make my tank healthier?

Second off– What should be my starter fish? I’m going to build up slowly and just get a school of either Cherry Barbs (preferably, but I’m not sure if they’re a very good beginner fish… some sources say they are, others not.) Harlequin Rasbora, Zebra Danios (rather not get these, but they seem to be the best choice) I also want a bunch of cory cats but I’m not too sure if they should be what I start out with.

What kind of filter should I get? Apparently undergravel filters are the worst, and bio-wheel filters are the “best.” Does it really matter?

What are some good invertebrates to be added to my aquarium that won’t consume plant life? I’m leaning towards Glass Shrimp and maybe Amano Shrimp when my tank is more mature and there’s more algae around. Possibly some nerites as well– I’d like a few apple snails but I don’t want them eating my plants! Also… Seeing as Glass shrimp and Cory cats are both bottom feeders/scavengers/whatever, would it be okay to have a school of cory cats (probably 5-7) as well as a few Glass shrimp or would there not be enough food for them? (Though, I suppose I’ll still be feeding them daily…)

Alright, sorry for all the questions, lol. I’m just a nervous new aquarium keeper who’s a perfectionist :) Thanks for reading and your answers in advance! Also, if possible, please answer each question individually… Sorry about having so many, haha. :(

My boyfriend just bought a 55gallon tank, what sort of freshwater fish will be the most entertaining to have?

I mean, any fish is entertaining…he is a beginner “aquariaist” who would like to know what sort of fish to put in his new 55gallon tank. Along with that, we also have 2 other smaller tanks. So far he has a couple glowfish, several ghost shrimp, 2 mickey mouse fish. and a dragonfish goby in a seperate tank.

I was wondering what sort of fish I could get him for the 55gal tank that would get along well with the dragon goby, because they are supposed to get pretty large. We were thinking some angel fish, but we would like them to be freshwater fish, because we are only beginners. We may move on to saltwater fish later when we are more experienced. But just throw some ideas in the air for us, because we are clueless as to what kind of fish to get, thanks!

What are some good, interesting freshwater fish for a 10g tank?

I’m a beginner, so I have little to no experience. I’m going to college soon, and the only pet we’re allowed is fish in a tank no bigger than 10g. Since I’ve grown up always caring for animals, it would be weird not to have that responsibility.

I was thinking about a dwarf puffer, but the only other fish they are compatible with would be an oto or ghost shrimp, and I’m not sure a 10g tank would provide enough algae for an oto or two. I’ve heard that you can have one dwarf puffer per 5g, but I wouldn’t want to risk that, so I’d only go with one. The problem is they’re so small, I feel like I would loose it in 10g.

I was also considering getting a few albino cories, but I couldn’t find much information on how many I could keep in just 10g, since they like to school. Not to mention they are bottom dwellers, I’d like to have a few middle-top fish.

I’m looking for fish that are fun to watch, require some care but are still hardy. I was also thinking I wanted real plants. Any suggestions on that as far as care, type, how it affects fish, etc are very appreciated.

Thanks!
