10 Gallon Freshwater Tank Stocking Question?

I have set up a 10 gallon tank about a month ago. Have been testing the water and I have gone through the cycles. I have had neon’s in the tank since the second week of setting it up. I had 3 and I lost one about a week ago to NTD. I do weekly water changes and I watch my levels closely. I’ve been talking to my local pet stores here and they talked me into buying 3 Dwarf Honey Sunset Gouramis. They are really small fish and they are very pretty.

Now what was Ideal for me was to only have 1 gourami and 3 balloon mollies and the neons and I really want some red cherry shrimp. Do the shrimp count towards my stocking count? (That may be a dumb question.)

Could I add the balloon mollies and some red cherry shrimp without overstocking my tank? I would really like both but if I was in danger of overstocking I would reconsider my purchases. Could someone help me out?
I already have the 3 gouramis and they are very small no larger than an inch. The two neons are fine together and i prob should get some more. I will prob. do 3 mollies but i just wanted to know if the shrimp would over load the biofilter or not.

Help with my 10 gallon tank please!!!?

I have 1 Gold Gourami, 1 Common Plecos, and 3 Silver Mollies

What else can i add???

guppies?
platies?
swordtails?
rainbowfish?
barbs?
neon tetras?
cory cats?
red cherry shrimp?

what can live together in freshwater???

Fish and Math- Stocking my 10 gallon tank with the Fibonacci Sequence?

Ok, If you think this is the weirdest, nerdiest thing in the world, dont bother, but if you have experience stocking a 10 gallon freshwater tank, and can add and subtract, help me out here.

I’d like to stock my 10 Gallon tank with a community that would fit within the Fibonacci Sequence. The sequence goes as such 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,….. The pattern (in case you can’t see it) is that you add the a and b to get c, b and c to get d, and so on (0+1=1, 1+1=2, 1+2=3, 2+3=5, etc).

That said, I’d like to stock my tank with a the number of each species corresponding to the Fibonacci numbers (1 of fish a, 1 of fish b, 2 of fish c, 3 of fish d etc.), but I dont want to overstock my tank.

Sound tricky enough?

Here’s what I’m thinking so far:
1 Mystery Snail
1 Algae Shrimp
2 Panda Corys
3 Bronze Corys
5 Neon Tetras

Is this overstocked? Any community problems with these fish I have not considered? Any other suggestion for stocking should be in line with the Fibonacci #’s please.
I dont buy into the inch per gallon thing. No way.

And the tank has a 50 watt heater, double rated filter (used to have goldfish in here) and is well on it’s way to cycling, fishless of course (ammonia just spiked), which is why i’m thinking about how to stock now, waiting for the nitrites and then nitrates. I want to know what to get when It’s cycled.

Thanks Cherri, that’s good to think about.
Thanks for the help, I’m going to keep it open for a few more days to see any other opinions.

I’m kindof limited on selection by my LFS, but it’s something I’m choosing to do, because I REFUSE to go to petco, and I love the people at this shop and how they treat their fish. They make you bring in a water sample, and they know what size tanks folks have, they practially make you do a homecheck :) . The prices are a little higher than your average petshop, but I’ve never got a sick fish from them, and all the old Chinese men buy their goldfish there. I trust them, so it’s worth a slightly limited selection.

Getting a 29-gallon fish tank. Suggestions?

My dad said we might get a 29 gallon fish tank in the living room, yay! It will be a freshwater tank. What are some good fish I could keep in there? By the way, I have my own 10 gallon tank in my bedroom with a few guppies, dwarf platies, and ghost shrimp, so maybe something a little different than this? I also have a betta tank in my room too.

So the bottom line is this: What are some fairly interesting and not-that-hard to keep fish that will live well in a 29 gallon tank?

IDEAS AND QUESTIONS: Converting 10 to 20 gal aquarium?

Right now I have a 10 gallon tank with the following:

Betta fish
3 Cory catfish
5 Neon Tetras
Heater
Thermometer
Air Stone
20 Gal Filter
3 fake plants
Fake Rock setup
Gravel

I would really like to house my fish and more fish into a 20 gallon tank. I have a tank in mind and its measurements are perfect for my room.

I plan on getting rid of the 3 fake plants and putting in real plants. I don’t need to buy a new filter since my current one filters up to 20 gallons.

Here are some ideas on what I might want to get:
More Cory Cats
More Neon tetras
Loaches
Freshwater sharks
Ghost Shrimp
Apple Snails
Java fern
Java Moss
Anubias Nana
Anubias barteri

If you have any suggestions on what else I can add or anything on converting to the new tank would help. What would you do if you had these fish and supplies already and were upgrading to a new 20 gal tank? Thanks to all that answer!
