I just noticed that I have small, skinny, white worms crawling on the side of my tank. They’re about 1/4 of an inch…
I have a freshwater tank that is established. Five rasbora harlequin, 4 guppies, two ghost shrimp, and two bristlenose plecos. With about 12 plants.
Nothing seems affected….yet. I’m worried this is a parasite and will harm my fish.
Anyone know what this is and where they come from.
PLEASE ONLY ANSWER IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!
Thanks.
My cousins had black worms. Dn’t drink you tap water ( or w.e u use to clean your tank)because there are probably tiny eggs in it. When they hatch they become little worm parasites. I suggest you file a complaint to wherever you get your water from asap!

I don’t know what they are, but I would suggest getting them out before they kill your fish.

They’re probably planaria, which are totally harmless to your fish. However, they are more dangerous sign.
Planaria are a sign of an ammonia spike and uneaten food in the gravel of your tank. Both of these can be dangerous– ammonia is toxic to fish, and uneaten food depletes oxygen, and it can decompose and kill your fish.
Test your water to see if you have had a spike in ammonia. If there’s a high amount of ammonia, then that’s likely the cause.
If you’re currently cycling your tank, then the ammonia level will go down on its own. If you have already cycled your tank, then make sure you don’t put any fish in there– you’ll kill your fish!
If you’re sure you have no ammonia in your tank, then you’ve probably been overfeeding your fish. You should siphon the bottom of your tank to get rid of the extra food.
The thing you want to do now, whether it’s an ammonia spike or too much food, is to change your water. That will both lower the ammonia level and help remove some of the extra food.
Removing either of these things should get rid of the planaria.

Sorry but not sure, but try this, take a sample of your water to a pet store that sells fish, with the worms and make sure it isnt something that has had babies in your tank,

they could highly be planaria, caused by over feeding, and irregular water changes. the best way to get rid of them is to syphin 25% of the water 4 weeks in a row… or change out the water completely and rinse all the pants and decorations and rocks, or get some parasite remover called “tank buddies parasite remover” which you can find at pet-smart!

They are probably planarians. They aren’t harmful to your fish. Sometimes they form in the tank due to over feeding. So…feed them only what they will eat, and clean out the tank.
