im not sure about all freshwater shrimp but most of them only live 1-2 years

Indeed, most of them live only a couple years. Planetinverts.com has a lot of info on FW shrimp. Cherry shrimp and yellow shrimp are good for beginners, and will breed in a small tank.

anything smaller than 2 inches is about a year…
Flower shrimp about 2 years as they are 3-4 inches….
awesome shrimp…unreal colours…
there are super colorful little guys but at 10 bucks each hmmmmmm…
don’t under estimate a 40 cent ghost shrimp aswell….tons and tons of personality..
had one that did back flips of plants..
one i could hand feed
And one that would wrestle 4 inch fish for food…..
what a gladiator.
